Presentation
Please prepare the following questions regarding the Constitutional Court or Supreme Court in your country:
Does your country have a Constitutional Court or a Supreme Court?
When was it established, and what was the reason for its creation?
How many Justices are there on the bench? Are there any eligibility requirements to serve as a Justice (such as education, profession, gender, etc.)?
Which political branches have the authority to nominate and approve the appointment of Justices?
How long is the term of office for Justices? Can they be dismissed? If so, what is the cause?
What powers do the Justices hold?
1) Adjudicating legal disputes;
2) Interpreting the Constitution;
3) Unifying interpretation of laws, statutes, or regulations;
4) Impeaching public officials;
5) Dissolving political parties; and/or
6) Resolving political disputes between branches of government.
In addition to these questions, please prepare at least one landmark decision made by the Court. Explain why you believe this decision is particularly significant or representative.
